Artist’s Statement:
The Forbidden Fruit is a performance I carried out in 2008 as part of the Vstop prost festival at the Celje city market. The idea of sharing apples originates from the biblical account of original sin, committed by Adam and Eve when they ate from the tree of knowledge. The consequences are well known: both were expelled from paradise, and the woman was blamed for everything—the emergence of sin, suffering, and death. Sharing apples was a symbolic gesture of “acknowledging” the innocence of women. I initially distributed apples at the market and later continued along the streets.
